Type Locality and Naming

The type section is in roadcuts from Yijianfang to Tangwangcheng, near 1186 km-road sign at the Wu-Yi highway in Xinjiang (40°N, 78°30'E). The Lianglitag Fm was named by Zhou Zhiyi in 1990.

Synonym: (良里塔格组)


Lithology and Thickness

The Formation is composed of light gray thick-bedded calcirudite, calcarenite and algal limestone. In the type area, the Lianglitag Fm is 61 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests conformably on the nodular limestone of the Tumxuk Fm

Upper contact

It is disconformably overlain by the Kepingtag Fm of early Silurian, or underlies the Sangtamu Fm of latest Ordovician.

Regional extent

The Lianglitag Fm is exposed in area east of Sanchakou and Tanghuangcheng-Yijianfang (Zhou et al., 1990).

Fossils

This formation yields conodont Belondina confluens. Additionally, trilobite Dulanaspis, brachiopod Camerella sp. and gastropod Maclurites sinkiangensis have been also found from the Lianglitage Fm.
